New York Cosmetology License

In order to get a New York license in barbering, cosmetology, esthetics, nail technology, or waxing from the New York State Board of Cosmetology, all students must complete the New York cosmetology requirements listed below. When obtaining a New York (NYS) cosmetology license, there isn’t an improper method as long as you have completed your coursework at a New York cosmetology school.

As stated by the New York (NY) State Board of Cosmetology, to receive a cosmetology license in NY, one must have attended a New York cosmetology school or when transferring into the state, the NY Board of Cosmetology, requires you to meet their guidelines. Upon completing your training, you’re required to pass a licensing exam issued by the New York (NY) State Board of Cosmetology. After passing the exam, you’ll receive your New York cosmetology license. You are now able to work within the state of New York. Keep in mind, even though you have received your NY cosmetology license you may want to contemplate continuing education to get full utilization from your cosmetology license. Cosmetologist (hairdresser):1,000 hours
Esthetician: 600 hours
Nail Specialist: 250 hours
Natural Hairstylist: 300 hours
Waxer: 75 hours
Having the equivalent level of schooling from another state or country.
