Montana Cosmetology License

The process for getting a license in cosmetology, nail technology, hairdressing, esthetics, or barbering from the state of Montana, all students must fulfill the requirements listed below by the Montana State Board of Cosmetology. When obtaining a Montana cosmetology license, there is no wrong path to take, as long as you have completed your coursework at a Montana cosmetology school.

As stated by the Montana State Board of Cosmetology, to obtain a Montana cosmetology license, one must have attended a Montana cosmetology school or when moving into the state, the Montana Board of Cosmetology, requires you to satisfy their guidelines.

After completing your training, Montana cosmetology license guidelines require you to pass a licensing exam issue by the Montana State Board of Cosmetology. Upon passing you will earn your Montana cosmetology license. You are now permitted to work in the state of Montana.

Montana Board of Cosmetology Work Hour Requirements:

Cosmetology: 2000 hours
Esthetics: 650 hours
Electrology: 600 hours
Nail Technician: 350 hours
Montana Cosmetology License Fees (annual or biennial):

Cosmetologist: $45
Electrologist: $45
Esthetician: $45
Manicurist: $45
Salon Owner: $50
An applicant with less than the hours required by Montana must take the National Practical and Written exams. An applicant may take the additional hours from an approved school.

Montana State Board of Cosmetology General Requirements:

Must be 18 years of age.
Must pass the Montana Board approved Cosmetology exam at 75% proficiency or higher.
Verification of license history from each state in which the applicant holds or has held a license in.
