Kansas Cosmetology License

The process for getting a license in cosmetology, nail technology, hairdressing, esthetics, or barbering from the state of Kansas, all students must fulfill the requirements listed below by the Kansas State Board of Cosmetology. When obtaining a Kansas cosmetology license, there is no wrong path to take, as long as you have completed your coursework at a Kansas cosmetology school.

As stated by the Kansas State Board of Cosmetology, to obtain a Kansas cosmetology license, one must have attended a Kansas cosmetology school or when moving into the state, the Kansas Board of Cosmetology, requires you to satisfy their guidelines.

After completing your training, Kansas cosmetology license guidelines require you to pass a licensing exam issue by the Kansas State Board of Cosmetology. Upon passing you will earn your Kansas cosmetology license. You are now permitted to work in the state of Kansas.

Kansas Board of Cosmetology Requirements
COSMETOLOGIST: 1500 hours
ESTHETICIAN: 650 hours
NAIL TECHNICIAN: 350 hours
ELECTROLOGY: 500 hours

Reciprocity
Provided you have 1500 hours and have been working in the field for at least one year and hold a current license. If you have less than 1500 hours you will have to take a “practical” exam. You may, however, obtain a temporary permit which allows you to work, pending examination.
