Illinois Cosmetology License

The process for getting a license in cosmetology, nail technology, hairdressing, esthetics, or barbering from the state of Illinois, all students must fulfill the requirements listed below. When obtaining a Illinois cosmetology license, there is no wrong path to take, as long as you have completed your coursework at a Illinois cosmetology school.

As stated by the Illinois (IL) State Board of Cosmetology, to obtain a Illinois cosmetology license, one must have attended a Illinois cosmetology school or when moving into the state, the Illinois (IL) Board of Cosmetology, requires you to satisfy their guidelines.

After completing your training, Illinois cosmetology license guidelines require you to pass a licensing exam issue by the Illinois (IL) State Board of Cosmetology. Upon passing you will earn your Illinois cosmetology license. You are now permitted to work in the state of Illinois.

Illinois State Board of Cosmetology Requirements
COSMETOLOGIST: 1500 hours
ESTHETICIAN: 750 hours
NAIL TECHNICIAN: 350 hours

Illinois Board of Cosmetology Additional Requirements
All applicants must be at least 16 years of age. Each applicant must have a minimum 8th grade education. If an applicant does not have a high school diploma or its’ equivalent they must take an Ability to Benefit test.

Reciprocity
Based on laws in issuing state compared to Illinois Law during the time period in which the applicant was licensed. The state does credit the applicant for work experience. Home salon and Mobile salon allowed.
