Idaho Cosmetology License

The process for getting a license in cosmetology, nail technology, hairdressing, esthetics, or barbering from the state of Idaho, all students must fulfill the requirements listed below. When obtaining a Idaho cosmetology license, there is no wrong path to take, as long as you have completed your coursework at a Idaho cosmetology school.

As stated by the Idaho State Board of Cosmetology, to obtain a Idaho cosmetology license, one must have attended a Idaho cosmetology school or when moving into the state, the Idaho Board of Cosmetology, requires you to satisfy their guidelines.

After completing your training, Idaho cosmetology license guidelines require you to pass a licensing exam issue by the Idaho State Board of Cosmetology. Upon passing you will earn your Idaho cosmetology license. You are now permitted to work in the state of Idaho.

Idaho Board of Cosmetology Requirements
COSMETOLOGIST: 2000 Hours, apprenticeship 4000 hours
ESTHETICIAN: 600 hours, apprenticeship 1200 hours
NAIL TECHNICIAN: 400 Hours, apprenticeship 800 hours

Idaho Board of Cosmetology Additional Requirements
Must be at least 16 1/2 years of age, of good moral character, and have completed two years of High School or its equivalent.

Granted to licensed applicants who provide official documentation that the requirements for license under which the license was issued are of a standard not lower than Idaho OR who provide official documentation that they have practiced for at least three (3) years immediately prior to making application. Home salons are allowed. Mobile salons are not allowed .
